Learning to Live Missionally and Mindfully

Thoughts on Hoodies (or, I Really Don’t Want to Do My Homework) March 31, 2008

Filed under: ME — Katie @ 8:46 pm

As I was folding laundry earlier, I came to a shocking realization: I have way too many hoodies.  (I also realized that I am not sure how you actually spell hoodies, or its singular form, so I’m going to go with the “ie” version since my name is spelled “ie” and not “y”) It is not natural to have this many hoodies, nor is it healthy to have such an attachment to them. One of them is incredibly faded and the zipper has been broken for years… but it is my favorite. My MOST favorite hoodie had to be retired late last year because the sleeves were literally coming apart at the seams. I have all sorts of hoodies…

Regular cotton hoodies (for the casual look)
Pullover hoodies (that way you can wear it as a shirt instead of as a jacket)
Cable knit hoodies (they just scream “I am either a kindergarten teacher or I am actually 40 years old”)
Sweatshirt hoodies (for school spirit)

And the best part of all is this:

I never actually wear the hood. No one does.

One thing I have learned March 26, 2008

God always does what He says He will do. He always comes through, He always provides, He always amazes, He always sustains. When we let go of our attachments and passionately follow where God leads us, He will surely not leave us disappointed. He will take us places that  we could not have imagined. Life is not always perfect; it does not always come neatly wrapped or fit into society’s black-and-white definitions. But, God never fails. God never lets us down. God never deceives.

Who is like Him? Who compares to Him? Who can stand up next to God, our God?

No one compares, no one even comes close.

Isaiah 55:2-3 “Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul with delight in the richest of fair. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.”

Isaiah 44:6-8 “This is what the Lord says – Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God. Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come – yes, let him foretell what will come. Do not tremble, do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim this and foretell it long ago? You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.”

Isaiah 46:5 “To whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared?”

Exodus 15:11
“Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you – majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?”
